I quote the bible here because the King James version of the Bible is the source of our British common law. In the period that I am referring to, if a matter was considered to be forbidden by the bible then it was automatically illegal. Today things have changed, as an example blasphemy is no longer a crime. With our increasingly liberal interpretations of the bible, actions are judged by their spirit, intent and outcome rather than forbidden by a written code.
